GOREVILLE – A body was found on southbound I-57 at milepost 43 one mile south of I-24 in Johnson County early Sunday morning.
According to a preliminary report from Illinois State Police, Troop 10 was informed of a report of a body on the roadway, and when troopers arrived at 3:16 a.m., they found a body in the southbound lanes. The body was located near an abandoned blue 1999 Buick parked on the right shoulder 40 yards south of the body. EMS arrived and pronounced the victim dead.
Another vehicle was located one mile south of the crash scene. The driver of that vehicle knew they had struck something but was unaware they had hit a person due to low visibility in heavy rains.
The driver pulled over and called 911 to report the crash. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
