CARBONDALE – The Illinois Department of Transportation is inviting the public to learn more and comment about proposed improvements to Illinois 37 from Wildcat Drive to Illinois 148 south of Marion in Williamson County. Instead of hosting a regular public meeting, IDOT will share details on the project and encourage public participation from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15 through a new website, https://idot.illinois.gov/projects/IL-37-to-IL-148.html.
The project involves milling and resurfacing the existing two-lane roadway, constructing two 8-foot shoulders, grading new ditches, and extending or replacing culverts from Wildcat Drive and continuing to the south, ending near Illinois 148. IDOT will also construct a right-turn lane at Lake of Egypt Road. The milling and resurfacing project is expected to begin late summer 2023 and extend through 2024.
At https://idot.illinois.gov/projects/IL-37-to-IL-148.html, the public can view aerial photography with proposed improvements, proposed typical sections, a safety overview and comment online.
Physical copies of the project materials will be on display at the District 9 office, 2801 W. Murphysboro Road in Carbondale. Comments received by or postmarked before Dec. 22 will become part of the official public meeting record.
Written comments not submitted via the website should be sent to:
