ELDORADO – A collaboration of organizations and citizens of southern Illinois are coming together to host a Holiday Block Party in downtown Eldorado. The event is sponsored by the Parents and Caregivers Empowered (PACE) group led by families of children with mental health challenges.

This Holiday Block Party will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Stress & Trauma Treatment Center’s Family Center, located at 1200 Locust St. in Eldorado.

All families are welcome and there are no costs to attend. The event will feature indoor and outdoor games, resources for families, hot chocolate and cookies, caroling, crafts, police cruiser and fire trucks, free pictures with Santa, and hourly giveaways. In addition, every child in attendance will leave with a Christmas gift.

“This event is focused on growing our sense of community and belonging for children and families. The pandemic has brought lots of adversity to southern Illinois families and this event helps rebuild our connections with each other, which is an important childhood resilience factor,” said Dr. Matt Buckman.

Eldorado Mayor Rocky James, addressed the issue saying, “We want our kids to remember that we are here for them during these tough times.”

Dr. Buckman also added, “We will be providing indoor and outdoor activities and closing down the street to reduce the spread of COVID during the event.”
