METROPOLIS – A Metropolis man is facing charges after a gun and cannabis were found in his vehicle following a recent traffic stop by Metropolis Police for suspended registration on U.S. 45 and 12th Street.
According to Metropolis Police, officers stopped a white Lexus 54-year-old Christopher T. Powers was driving Friday and asked him if there were any weapons in the vehicle which he denied. Powers was informed that the vehicle was going to be towed since the registration was suspended and he could not provide proof of insurance.
As Powers was getting out of the car, a handgun was seen in the driver’s door. Powers did not have a FOID or concealed carry permit. The .40 caliber pistol was loaded with a full 13 round magazine and one in the chamber. A further search of the vehicle revealed that he was in possession of scales and six plastic baggies that contained over 100 grams of cannabis.
Powers was charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle with Suspended Registration, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Deliver, Possession of over 100 grams of Cannabis, Aggravated Unlawful Use/Possession of a Firearm and no FOID.
Powers was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
