CARMI – White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss announced Friday that the White County State’s Attorney’s office will not prosecute a case regarding an alleged inappropriate incident between a corrections officer and an inmate at the White County Jail in Carmi last year.
According to Sheriff Weiss, on Nov. 11, he was notified about the alleged incident between a correctional officer and an inmate after the inmate became agitated in the jail and was placed in an isolation cell.
After gathering all information, the sheriff says he was determined to contact Illinois State Police to investigate the incident.
On Nov. 23, ISP investigators arrived at the White County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the inmate’s interview. After it was conducted, ISP Investigations took possession of the audio/video from the jail to review. They reviewed all video footage and incident reports from all correctional officers that were on duty at the time of the alleged incident.
All audio/video footage, interview reports and incident reports were turned over to the White County State’s Attorney for review.
After reviewing all reports and audio/video footage of the incident, the State’s Attorney denied prosecuting the case for lack of evidence.
