MURPHYSBORO – A Tuesday morning crash in Jackson County claimed a Murphysboro man’s life.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened on Town Creek Road at Worthen Cemetery Road in rural Murphysboro.
The sheriff’s office says deputies responded to the crash at 7:40 a.m. and said a black 2002 Mitsubishi, driven by 27-year-old Kyle Lee Thompson of Murphysboro, was going east on Town Creek Road when it left the roadway to the right, struck a driveway culvert, then overturned several times.
Thompson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit. The road was closed for about two hours.
The Jackson County Ambulance Service, the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, the Murphysboro-Pomona-Somerset Fire Protection District, and the Murphysboro Fire Department all assisted on the call.
