Beginning March 18, 2026, the transit and vehicle entrance for passenger drop-off at the Southern Illinois Multimodal Station (SIMMS) will move to its permanent location, south of the current temporary entrance on South Illinois Avenue.
The new permanent entrance is located directly north of Pagliai’s parking lot (509 South Illinois Avenue). The temporary entrance will no longer be accessible.
Driving Directions:
When traveling on South University Avenue, drivers should follow posted Amtrak wayfinding signs and use Cherry Street (eastbound) to cross South Illinois Avenue. Access to the drop-off entrance will be located at the south end of the SIMMS parking lot.
When traveling north on South Illinois Avenue, follow the signs for the new entrance located on the north side of the Pagliai’s parking lot.
All drivers must follow the designated drop-off route and exit onto East Walnut Street (Route 13 East).
Parking:
Passengers may continue to use temporary complimentary parking in the lot behind Carbondale City Hall, 200 South Illinois Avenue.
Additional updates regarding facility access will be shared as construction nears completion.
