METROPOLIS – Lane restrictions will go into effect Sunday night at 7 so crews can set up the work zone for Phase 2 of the I-24 Ohio River Bridge rehabilitation project in Metropolis starting Monday.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction so a temporary concrete barrier can be installed along the center of the westbound lanes. Width restrictions will be in effect. Once prep work is complete, all traffic will be shifted onto the westbound lanes, with one lane in each direction separated by a temporary barrier. This will allow both eastbound lanes to close for construction of a new concrete deck overlay.
You can expect delays, so take other routes. The U.S. 45 Brookport Bridge can be used an alternative route, but semi-trucks are not allowed on the bridge. Drivers of large vehicles should plan on using alternate state routes.
The lane reductions are expected to remain in place through Oct. 13. Completion of the overall project is anticipated in fall 2027.
