Two Arrested for DUI in Separate Du Quoin Incidents

DU QUOIN – Du Quoin Police recently made two DUI arrests, including one involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

According to police reports, officers first responded around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3, to a 911 call reporting a vehicle swerving on Washington Street. A second 911 call soon followed reporting that a pedestrian had been struck at the intersection of Park and Line streets.

When officers arrived, they found witnesses assisting the victim. Witnesses provided a description of the vehicle, which matched the one reported in the earlier call. They told officers the vehicle left the scene after striking the pedestrian.

While officers were rendering aid, the suspect vehicle returned to the scene. Police identified the driver as Cole Daffron and reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, prompting a DUI investigation.

Following the investigation, Daffron was arrested for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. He was taken to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and later released.

Daffron was cited for DUI, improper lane usage and leaving the scene of an accident.

Later that evening, at about 6:40 p.m., an officer on routine patrol saw a vehicle speeding. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued for about a mile before stopping. Police identified the driver as Sean M. Hamilton. Hamilton got out of the vehicle and attempted to walk away. The officer reported detecting an odor of alcohol on his breath, leading to a DUI investigation.

Hamilton was arrested on suspicion of DUI and transported to the Du Quoin Police Department, where he was later released.

He was cited for DUI, Speeding, Expired Registration and Operating an Uninsured Vehicle.
