Joppa Woman Charged in Hit-and-Run Crash at Metropolis Truck Stop

METROPOLIS – A Joppa woman was recently charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash at the Acee’s truck stop in Metropolis.

According to Metropolis Police, the victim said his vehicle was struck by another vehicle, driven by 44-year-old Michelle L. Choate, who appeared to not be paying attention causing damage to both vehicles. Video from Acee’s captured the crash that happened last Friday.

When the victim said he was calling his parents and police, Choate fled the scene.

Using the Flock System and the city’s camera system, Choate’s vehicle was identified and showed that she lived in Joppa. Massac County Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle and Choate at her home. She was taken to the Metropolis Police Department.

Choate was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Failure to Report Crash to Police Authority. She was released on a notice to appear.
