Reserve Deputies Will Help with School Safety in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG – The Saline County Sheriff’s Office and the Harrisburg School District safety staff recently joined forces to better serve students and the community.

Several former law enforcement officers from around the Saline County area have been called back to duty and will serve as reserve deputies.

While their primary function will remain safety and security of students, staff and the five campuses in the district, the reserve deputies may also be activated – outside of school hours – in emergencies or disasters, at no additional expense to the sheriff’s office budget.

In addition to adding sworn officers, the School Resource Officer partnership with the sheriff’s office will allow these officers the same training opportunities as all other law enforcement.
