A.J. Metheney

MCLEANSBORO – A.J. Metheney, 93, of McLeansboro, IL, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

A.J. was born June 8, 1932, in Akin, IL, the son of Earl Metheney and Dolly (Reed) Metheney.

On October 7, 1967, he married Nedra (Adams) Metheney. Nedra passed away November 24, 2016.

A.J. served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He loved to hunt, garden, and enjoy any activity associated with being outdoors.

Survivors include his sons, David Reed of McLeansboro, IL, and Kevin Metheney and wife Jami of Georgetown, IL; a brother, Richard Metheney and wife Glenda of Effingham, IL; and a sister, Linda Metheney of Port Richey, FL. Also surviving are grandchildren Andrew Metheney, Courtney Metheney, and Mallory Glowski and husband Justin; and great-grandchildren Coltyn, Mayci, and Brayden Glowski.

A.J. was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Visitation for A.J. Metheney will be Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. A funeral service will follow at noon, with burial at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro. Pastor Bill Reed will officiate. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside.

The Harre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
