MCLEANSBORO – Lowell Thomas Huffstutler, 83, a longtime resident of McLeansboro, Illinois, passed from this life on October 25, 2025.
He was born on February 15, 1942, in Hamilton County, Illinois, to Calvin Paul and Samantha Frances (Tennyson) Huffstutler. He was raised in McLeansboro, where he developed lifelong friendships and a deep love for his community. Lowell married the love of his life, Jill, on April 23, 1966.
He attended Washington University in St. Louis, graduating with a B.S. in Accounting while working at McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing). He later returned to McLeansboro to begin his career at AMAX Coal Company, where he worked for 25 years. In the final chapter of his career, he served as Director of Accounting at the Baptist Children’s Home, a role that brought him great fulfillment and joy.
A devoted Christian, Lowell faithfully served for more than 40 years as a member, Deacon, and Treasurer of Blooming Grove Baptist Church. He loved sports especially cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals as well as Illini basketball.
Those who survive him and cherish his memory include his wife, Jill; daughters, Erika Fuesting and husband Chad of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Britt Rokita and husband David of St. Louis, Missouri; and granddaughters, Fiona Fuesting, Veronica Fuesting, Amelia Rokita, and Norah Rokita.
Funeral services for Lowell will be held on Wednesday, October 29, at Harre Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Blooming Grove Cemetery, with lunch afterward at Blooming Grove Baptist Church.
The family requests that memorial donations be made in Lowell’s honor to the Baptist Children’s Home or Blooming Grove Baptist Church.
