Sheriff Weiss: Take Steps to Prevent ATV and Lawn Mower Thefts in White County

CARMI – White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss wants you to take preventive measures so your ATVs, UTVs and lawn mowers aren’t stolen.

They include removing keys from all vehicles and equipment when not in use, store equipment in locked and secured locations whenever possible, and consider installing exterior security cameras or surveillance systems to deter criminal activity and assist law enforcement in the event of a theft. Sheriff Weiss says if you would like recommendations regarding reliable camera systems or other security measures, please contact the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff reminds you to take these precautions because several reports of stolen ATVS, UTVs and lawn mowers throughout the county have been received by the sheriff’s office over the past several weeks. In several instances, these vehicles were left with keys in the ignition, stored in unsecured buildings, or parked in open areas.

Investigators are working to locate and recover the stolen property. This is an ongoing investigation and may require some time to resolve.

Anyone with information relating to these thefts should call the sheriff’s office at 618-382-5321.
