STONEFORT – An arrest has been in made in connection with a Wednesday afternoon arson at a Stonefort home according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeffrey A. Glover was found by Saline County Sheriff’s deputies near Muddy after getting a tip regarding his whereabouts. He tried to flee on a bicycle, but was caught and arrested. Glover remains in the Saline County Detention Center on a Illinois Department of Corrections hold for an unrelated case.
Surveillance captured Glover arriving at the victim’s home on a bicycle around 2 p.m. He walked around the property and left about 5 minutes later. He returned shortly thereafter with a backpack. He cut the power supply on one of the cameras and was not seen again. Around 2:45 p.m., the homeowner returned and found their house filled with smoke and part of it burning. Her caregiver quickly used water to put out the flames before they spread.
Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the State Fire Marshal’s office requested help from Williamson County Sheriff’s detectives.
The case has been sent to the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s office. Charges are pending.
