MT. VERNON – A man is facing gun-related charges after Mt. Vernon Police responded Sunday morning to the area of South 34th Street due to a possible shooting.

Police arrived around 11:20 a.m. and found a vehicle that had been involved in an accident and evidence of a shooting. A short time later, the other vehicle involved in the accident and shooting, which had two victims, was located in the 600 block of Strawberry. Mt. Vernon Police and Fire along with Litton’s Ambulance responded to this location. One victim refused treatment and the other was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies assisted Mt. Vernon Police with scene security.
Mt. Vernon Police Detectives responded and began investigating. They obtained a search warrant for the offender’s apartment in Mt. Vernon and executed it. The offender was later located in Centralia, where he was taken back to the Mt. Vernon Police Department. This was not a random act of gun violence and was a targeted incident.
At the conclusion of the investigation, 22-year-old Amil Ganaway of Mt. Vernon was charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Revoked FOID status. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
