Residents Kenny Benedict and John Nalley heard smoke alarms sounding and the resident at the window yelling for help, as she could not get down the stairs due to heavy smoke.

The two men, along with West City Police Officer James Pritchard, were able to get the child and the mother out of the second-story window to safety. They were taken to Franklin Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and later released.
