Man, Two Juveniles Arrested after Retail Theft in Carbondale

CARBONDALE – A man and two juveniles were recently arrested following a retail theft in the 1400 block of East Main Street in Carbondale, according to the Carbondale Police Department.

Police say the man, identified as 18-year-old Javier J. Upshaw of Carbondale, and two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, fled a business without paying for merchandise around 11:45 a.m. Friday. All three were later located and arrested for Retail Theft.

During the incident, Upshaw was reportedly in possession of a firearm, which he gave to one of the juveniles as they fled. The juvenile attempted to hide the weapon but was taken into custody. He was additionally charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Upshaw was booked into the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing. The juveniles were released to their parents pending a court date. No injuries were reported.
