MARION – Work has begun on Phase 1 of the $41.7 million expansion of I-57 from Marion to the I-24 split in Williamson County.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, crews are busy with excavation and drainage work to get the site ready for new lanes and a safer, smoother ride.
Work is expected to wrap up next year.
