PADUCAH – A Heat Advisory has been issued for Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pope. Pulaski and Union counties today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Heat index values of 105 to 109 are expected.
Dangerous heat will build over the weekend and continue into next week.
A prolonged dangerous heatwave is expected with daily heat indices of 105 to 115, potentially exceeding 120 by the middle of the week.
Daily shower and thunderstorm chances will continue through early next week before trending dry. Heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and localized flash flooding over a short duration will be the main concern.
Isolated strong storms are possible today with a brief downburst being the main hazard of concern.
So to beat the heat, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and stay out of the sun. Remember to check up on relatives and neighbors. Make sure your pets have a shady spot and plenty of cool fresh water to drink if you can’t bring them indoors. If you have to do anything outside, do it during the early morning or late evening hours.
