SPRINGFIELD – Several fire departments and fire protection districts in our area have been awarded part of $5 million in grants from the inaugural Fire Station Construction and Rehabilitation Program that will allow them to repair, upgrade, or construct new fire stations. That’s according to Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office who made the announcement Wednesday.
Grants were awarded to Tamms, Equality, Shawneetown, McLeansboro, Gorham, Buncombe, Vienna, Kell, Carrier Mills, Ware-Wolf Lake and Norris City.
A total of 16 grantees across the state were selected through a competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity process that was opened to fire departments, fire protection districts, and township fire departments. The program was established to provide grants of up to $350,000 for the construction or rehabilitation of fire stations across the state.
