MCLEANSBORO – Gene Ella Johnson, 72, of McLeansboro, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at her residence. Gene was born in Kankakee, IL, on January 30, 1953, to Eugene and Dorothy (Brown) Dravo. On February 14, 2018, she married John Johnson in Kankakee and he survives.
Gene was a homemaker and a member of Brush Harbor Church in McLeansboro. She loved to crochet, making quilts for babies.
Survivors include her husband, John; a daughter, Karee Torres and husband Julio of McLeansboro; and a son, John Clark and wife Pam of Macedonia; stepsons: Nathan Johnson and wife Leah of Kankakee, IL, and Garth Johnson and wife Margaret of Dwight, IL; stepdaughter, Sarissa Johnson of Watseka, IL. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Gene is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, George Dravo; and a sister, Carolyn Poynter.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her church, Brush Harbor, at a later date with a burial of ashes in the church cemetery. Pastor Rick Floyd will officiate.
The Harre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
