State Rep. Dave Severin Running for Re-election

BENTON – 116th District State Representative Dave Severin says he will run for another term. Severin, a Benton native and small business owner, has served in the Illinois House since 2017. Severin says he believes his strong conservative record makes him the right Republican to lead southern Illinois in Springfield.

“My constituents know that I put their interests and values first. I’ve built a solid conservative Republican voting record in Springfield,” Severin said. “I’m leading the fight to stop dangerous and costly Sanctuary State policies, opposing Democrats’ unending gun grabs, opposing taxpayer funds for abortions, and fighting to restore Illinois as an energy-dominant state. I’m America-First, Illinois-First, pro-2nd Amendment, and pro-life. I’m proud to stand for re-election on the record that I’ve built.”

Severin recently voted NO on a Democrats-only record-spending $55 billion budget, the largest in state history. Severin says tax-and-spend Democrats have lost touch with hardworking families still struggling under the weight of Biden-era inflation.

“Democrats just can’t help themselves. Since JB Pritzker took office, state spending has exploded by 38% in just six years, with billions of Illinois taxpayer dollars going to fund services for illegal immigrants, taxpayer-funded abortions, and expanded government programs,” Severin said. “I have voted to oppose the tax-spend-repeat cycle that Democrats are so addicted to. We must cut the size and scope of state government and deliver better results for our taxpayers.”

Severin, who currently serves as the Republican spokesman on the House Energy & Environment Committee, says Democrats’ “Green New Scam” energy policies have severely harmed working families and seniors on fixed incomes by shutting down coal-fired power plants and crippling Illinois’ electrical grid.

“Electricity prices have exploded due to radical energy policies. I’ve been fighting for coal for years, and I’ve voted NO on the radical energy policies that have caused price spikes and reliability issues,” Severin said. “Irresponsible energy policies pushed by radical Democrats have cost families thousands more dollars per year and some businesses millions more dollars per year. We need to restore baseload power to our energy grid, improve reliability, and provide clean, efficient, and affordable power to our citizens and businesses.”

Severin and his wife Penny have been married for 47 years. They reside in Benton. They have one son and daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.
