Woman, Baby Rescued from Fire at West City Housing Complex

WEST CITY – Two people were rescued from a fire at the federal housing complex at 310 South Browning Street in West City Tuesday morning.

West City Police say a passerby heard smoke alarms and a woman with a baby in a second story unit screaming for help around 11:45 a.m.

Citizens helped the victims out of a window and lowered them to the ground. They were taken to Franklin Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Police say the fire does not appear to be suspicious. The State Fire Marshal is investigating due to injuries.

Fire crews from West City, Benton and West Frankfort along with AMR Ambulance responded.
