Pursuit Ends with Two Arrests on Multiple Charges in White County

CARMI – Two people are in the White County Jail on multiple charges following a pursuit involving law enforcement Thursday.

According to Sheriff Jordan Weiss, a deputy saw a vehicle leaving Huck’s with suspended registration and attempted a traffic stop. When the driver saw the emergency lights, they initially began to stop but fled at a high rate of speed exceeding 90 mph.

The sheriff ordered the deputy to end the pursuit due to excessive speeds and dangerous driving behavior. The deputy continued following the vehicle safely.

The vehicle was seen speeding as it turned onto several county roads. The deputy saw bags containing a white substance being thrown from the vehicle. The vehicle then traveled east on Illinois 14 into Carmi. Spike strips were used successfully. Even though the vehicle’s tires deflated, it continued through Carmi and onto additional county roads before coming to a stop on Illinois 141 near the Wabash River Bridge.

The driver was identified as Misty Richey of Harrisburg. Karson Horton of Carrier Mills was her passenger.

During the subsequent investigation, narcotics and ammunition were recovered along the route the vehicle had traveled. The recovered narcotics were identified as just over 26 grams of crystal meth. Twenty-eight rounds of 9mm ammo were located.

Richey was charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Unlawful Use of Property, Possession of Methamphetamine (15-100 grams), Reckless Driving, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Cannabis and Resisting.

Horton was charged with Obstructing Justice, Possession of Methamphetamine (15-100 grams) Unlawful Use of Property, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Cannabis. Horton was also served with a parole violation warrant at the White County Jail.
