Carmi Police Arrest Harrisburg Man on Drug Charges

HARRISBURG – A Harrisburg man is facing drug and other charges after Carmi Police stopped his vehicle Friday night for suspended license plates related to a mandatory insurance violation.

Police say 54-year-old Stephen D. Pfifer was stopped near First Bank on West Main Street at about 7:50 p.m.

During the stop, police reportedly found a bag of cannabis in the center console and an unmarked pill bottle containing heroin in the vehicle’s center cup holder.

Pfifer was subsequently arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle by Driver. He was also charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Registration is Suspended for Mandatory Insurance Violation. He was released on his own recognizance due to medical reasons around 9:40 p.m. He is set to appear in court Jan. 20.
