Hamilton County Board to Appoint Mead as State’s Attorney

MCLEANSBORO – The Hamilton County Board is expected to name Hamilton County Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah Mead as the county’s next State’s Attorney at its special meeting Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Hamilton County Courthouse in McLeansboro.

Mead will replace State’s Attorney Justin Hood, who announced his resignation back in October. He will step down Jan. 1. That’s when he will become a member of the Special Prosecution Unit with the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor’s Office.

This unit is made up of seasoned trial attorneys who prosecute criminal cases as directed by the State’s Attorney and exclusively handle criminal cases when appointed by a court with jurisdiction.

Hood was elected State’s Attorney in 2008 and was reelected in 2012, 2016, 2020 and last year.
