SIU Carbondale to Honor about 1,550 Grads at Fall 2025 Commencement

CARBONDALE – The academic achievements of about 1,550 Southern Illinois University Carbondale students will be celebrated at fall 2025 commencement exercises Saturday at Banterra Center.

Commencement begins at 9:30 a.m. There is no limit to guests, and all seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis with no tickets required.

The ceremony will honor graduates for both summer and fall 2025 semesters. As of late November, there are 1,536 candidates for degrees: 893 for bachelor’s degrees, 503 for master’s degrees, 99 for doctoral degrees, one for a law degree, 38 for associate degrees and two certificates. The youngest graduate is 19; the oldest is 71.

There are 322 graduates with an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher and nine students who earned a 4.0 GPA. In addition to the United States, students from Bangladesh, Barbados, Belgium, Canada, China, Germany, India, Iran, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom will also graduate.

“Commencement is always my favorite day on campus,” said Chancellor Austin A. Lane. “As we prepare to celebrate the fall 2025 graduating class, we look forward to honoring Salukis who have met challenges with determination, pursued their goals with purpose and transformed their aspirations into achievement. When they cross the stage, they will be ready to lead, innovate and make meaningful contributions to their communities and the broader world. This will be their moment — and Southern could not be more proud.”

More information is available at commencement.siu.edu. The ceremony will be available via livestream and begin 15 minutes before the start.
