MURPHYSBORO – A Murphysboro woman lost her life after she was hit by a pickup truck around 7 Tuesday night on Business Highway 13 near West Industrial Park Road in rural Murphysboro.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, 84-year-old Robert Privett of Murphysboro was driving south on Business Highway 13 approaching the Union Pacific Railroad underpass when he tried to avoid hitting a pedestrian identified as 50-year-old Jennifer Perez of Murphysboro. Perez was walking north in the southbound lane when she was hit.
An off-duty deputy was first on the scene and reported the crash. The deputy and another passing motorist gave aid to Perez until an ambulance arrived. Perez was taken to an area hospital where she died a short time later.
The roadway was closed for almost two hours for the crash investigation.
