WEST FRANKFORT – It looks like a teacher strike in West Frankfort has been averted.
West Frankfort School Superintendent Matt Donkin announced late Thursday night that, after meeting in their 17th bargaining session, the negotiation teams for the district and AFT Local 817 have reached a tentative agreement on their contract.
Both sides will now take the new collective bargaining agreement back to their members for review and will schedule votes for approval in the coming days.
Teachers were set to go on strike Sunday if an agreement wasn’t reached by then.
