METROPOLIS – A fiery and deadly rear-end crash involving two semis towing trailers happened just before 2:30 Tuesday morning on eastbound I-24 south of Rosebud Road in Metropolis.
According to Illinois State Police, one driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was airlifted to an area hospital.
The interstate was closed between Illinois 146 and U.S. 45.
ISP says one lane reopened around 9 a.m.
