MARION – Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois in Marion Wednesday held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new general aviation terminal.

The new facility features over 4,700 square feet – double the size of the former terminal that was built in the 1950s.
It will accommodate private and corporate aircraft owners and pilots as they fly to and from our region daily and provide adequate space and the modern accommodations expected for their use and convenience.
The terminal features expanded public waiting and meeting areas, improved flight planning rooms and related accommodations, a new parking lot and lighting, and increased office and work space for the airport’s Fixed Base Operator, Midwest Aviation, which provides commercial aeronautical services for airport users.

The total project cost was $4.6 million with 62 percent of the project funded by the FAA. The remainder was funded with airport and IDOT funds.
