Janice Coleman

CHRISTOPHER – Janice Coleman, 76, of Christopher, and a longtime resident of Leland, IL, died peacefully in her home on October 8, 2025.

Janice was born on August 20, 1949, to Bart and Joyce (Fleming) Jacobson in Leland, IL, where she lived until moving to Christopher in 2017. Janice grew up the second of four siblings who she remained close to throughout her life. Family was Janny’s focus in life and it was amongst family where she developed her love of dogs, especially Beagles (her favorite breed next to rescued).

Janny was always with family, even helping her brother with the family business, Jacobson Builders. This is where she sharpened her business skills which she put to use at Model Industries (later Remline), working her way from secretary to sales manager; a career that allowed her to travel to many places and meet many people. These business skills, coupled with a great sense of humor, made her a force to be reckoned with in the male dominated world of metal tool boxes. But she was always ready to come home to her family. Janny loved to be with her family. Making jokes even at the most serious of times, playing cards, listening to music, or watching the races was her idea of a great time.

She looked after her mom and aunt until their final days and was looked after by her daughter, Tracy, in her final days.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Tracy (Keith) Steinbach of Christopher; brother, John (Janet) Jacobson of Dekalb, IL; sister, Jackie (Gil) Goldberg of Stevensville, MD; nephews and nieces, Troy, Andrea, Becky, Vincent, Allison; many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and her special extended Coleman Family.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Bart and Joyce; sister, Julie (Don) Kline; niece, Meghan Kline; best friend, James “G-Ma” Wold; and a lifetime of four legged companions who were waiting her arrival.

As per Jan’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral.
