MARION – Eighty-seven veterans and their guardians will fly out of Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois in Marion early Tuesday morning and head to Washington, D.C. on Mission 15 of the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois.
When they get to D.C., veterans will check out the memorials honoring their service and sacrifice.
Bryan Questelle, with the Honor Flight, says donations from the community make these flights possible twice a year. Mission 14 happened in May.
Donation information can be found at veteranshonorflight.org/donate or make your donation at any Peoples National Bank location. Donations are tax deductible.
A Welcome Home Celebration will begin at 5 p.m. at the airport with food, live entertainment and a Kids Zone. Veterans will fly back into Marion during the event and will be greeted by those in attendance around 8:30 or 9 p.m.
Since airport parking is limited, you can park at Cornerstone Church and Sam’s Club on Walton Way starting at 5 p.m. and take a shuttle bus to the airport.
