MT. VERNON – A detention hearing was held Tuesday in Jefferson County Court for 23-year-old Mason F. Prichard of Muncie, Indiana, in connection with last week’s shooting on northbound I-57 near Mt. Vernon.

According to online court records, the state’s petition to deny pre-trial release was heard and granted. A motion hearing in this case is set for next Tuesday.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says Prichard shot at a minivan near mile marker 91 on northbound I-57 around 8:30 a.m. Friday. No one was injured. The vehicle was damaged by gunfire. Law enforcement later spotted Prichard driving east on I-64 in Wayne County and stopped him on Illinois 242 just inside Hamilton County. He and two others were inside the vehicle. Prichard was quickly identified as the shooter. All three were taken to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
Prichard was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm to an Occupied Vehicle. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail.
