Indiana Man Charged in Friday Shooting on I-57 in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON – A Muncie, Indiana, man was arrested in connection with a shooting on northbound I-57 in Mt. Vernon Friday morning.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 23-year-old Mason F. Prichard is charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm to an Occupied Vehicle. Prichard was booked in the Jefferson County Jail to await his pretrial detention hearing.

Around 8:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a 911 report of a subject shooting at a vehicle from a minivan on northbound I-57 near mile marker 91. The caller/victim reported the suspect vehicle possibly went east on I-64 at the southern split with I-57. Deputies along with Mt. Vernon Police, Wayne County and Illinois State Police responded.

Authorities found the suspect vehicle going east on I-64 in Wayne County and made a felony stop on Illinois 242 just inside Hamilton County. Prichard and two others were detained. Prichard was quickly identified as the shooter. All three were taken to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.

With the shooting happening on I-57, ISP requested to finish the investigation and sheriff’s deputies and detectives assisted them. This led to Prichard’s arrest. No one was injured and one vehicle was damaged by gunfire.
