SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Commerce Commission Thursday approved funds to install automatic flashing light signals with gates and constant warning circuitry at the Mine Road crossing near Hurst.

The total estimated cost of the signal design and construction is $327,687 – 95 percent of which will be covered by the Grade Crossing Protection Fund, not to exceed $311,303. The Union Pacific Railroad Company will pay the remaining 5 percent of the costs and all future maintenance costs for the signals and circuitry.

All required signal work is to be completed within 18 months of the ICC’s order.
