HARRISBURG (SIC NEWS) — Dr. Glenn Poshard, a lifelong advocate for children and families, will visit Southeastern Illinois College on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. for a special poetry and music program in the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Arts Center. Admission is free, and monetary donations will be accepted for the 4Cs Food Pantry in Harrisburg.

In “Beginnings and Endings,” Poshard blends his own poetry with selections from favorite writers, weaving together themes of love, faith, courage, joy, and life’s final chapters. Accompanied by his own singing, the program invites listeners to reflect on shared experiences and the turning points that shape our lives.
Poshard’s passion for serving those in need began when he volunteered at a Korean orphanage at the age of 18. Today, he is on a mission to raise $500,000 by Christmas for food pantries across southern and central Illinois, with a focus on providing fresh fruits and vegetables to children facing hunger.
Audience members have described his presentations as deeply moving and unforgettable. One attendee called the experience “a world of music, reflection, hope, and commitment to justice and joy,” while another praised it as “an hour well spent that leaves you feeling better and glad you made the time.”
“This reading is about more than poetry — it’s about connecting to one another in our shared humanity and helping hungry children in our region,” Poshard said.
Monetary donations and checks made payable to the 4Cs will be accepted at the door. All proceeds from the SIC event will benefit the 4Cs Food Pantry.
“The need is great, and support from events like this means we can put fresh, healthy food on the tables of more families in southeastern Illinois,” said Larry Clore, President of the Board of Directors for the 4Cs Food Pantry. “We’re grateful to Dr. Poshard and SIC for making this possible.”
“Southeastern is honored to welcome Dr. Poshard and support this effort to care for families in our community,” said Dr. Karen Weiss, SIC President.
