SHAWNEETOWN – The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM) will visit the Shawneetown Fire Department, with the Carrier Mills Fire Department also in attendance, today to highlight the impact of state grant and loan programs that support rural fire departments. These include the Fire Station Construction and Rehabilitation Grant, Small Equipment Grant, and the Fire Truck and Ambulance Revolving Loan Program.
Through these programs, departments receive critical funding to modernize or rebuild aging fire stations, purchase essential tools and protective gear for firefighters, and secure new fire apparatus that might otherwise be out of reach.
A check presentation will be done for departments in attendance and tools will be on display that have been purchased through the Small Equipment Grant Program. Carrier Mills will showcase their new fire truck, made possible through the Revolving Loan Program.
Together, Shawneetown and Carrier Mills have received over $1 million in grants and loans, strengthening their ability to protect their communities and keep firefighters safe.
The presentation and display will start at 1 p.m. at the Shawneetown Fire Department on East Posey Avenue.
