DESOTO – A death investigation is underway in Jackson County.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says early Friday morning, fishermen on the Big Muddy River near DeSoto found a body in the water. Deputies and the Jackson County Coroner arrived. The coroner pronounced the individual dead at the scene.
Based on preliminary evidence, investigators believe they have a probable identification and family members have been notified. Steps to determine a definite identification are underway.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest foul play, but the investigation continues.
