Two More Arrested in Deadly Mt. Vernon Shooting Case; Investigation Continues

MT. VERNON/WAYNE CITY – Two more arrests have been made in connection with the July 27 shooting that killed two people and injured several others in the 600 block of South 15th Street in Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon Police say as a result of their continued investigation and search warrants executed in Mt. Vernon and Wayne City Wednesday, 25-year-old Davonta Boyd of Mt. Vernon was arrested and charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and 29-year-old Dequan Hopkins of  Wayne City was arrested and charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Offender.

Mt. Vernon Police recently arrested 26-year-old Jamaro J. Kemmerling of Mt. Vernon. He’s charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team executed a search warrant in the 700 block of South 18th Street. Police along with the sheriff’s office and Illinois State Police began their investigation.

Police along with the sheriff’s office, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police and U.S. Marshals carried out another search warrant on Lappin Avenue in Wayne City. Their investigation began after the home was secured.

This investigation is still active and ongoing. If you have information that leads to an arrest of an offender, you could be eligible for a reward up to $2,500. Please call the Mt.
