Stolen SUV Tracked by GPS Leads to Crash, Three Arrested in Marion Area

MARION – Three people were arrested Tuesday after stealing a vehicle from a Marion business according to Marion Police.

Marion Police say officers went to the business in the 1200 block of West Dufour Street just before 8 Tuesday morning regarding a stolen silver Ford Escape. It had an active GPS monitoring system. The business owner helped police track the vehicle and relay its location to other officers in the area.

The vehicle was found going east on Illinois 13 in Carterville. A Carterville Police officer intercepted the vehicle and followed it to the intersection of Routes 148 and 13 where it struck the trailer of another motorist at the intersection.

Marion Police were able to stop the vehicle and detained two adult occupants and one juvenile. Charges are pending for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
