MT. VERNON – A man is facing gun charges in connection with the early Sunday morning shooting that killed two people and injured several others in the 600 block of South 15th Street in Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon Police say 26-year-old Jamaro J. Kemmerling of Mt. Vernon has been charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender.
Police arrested and charged 22-year-old Jerria J. Smith of Mt. Vernon with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Obstructing Justice following the shooting.
According to online court records, Smith appeared in Jefferson County Court by video Monday. The state’s attorney’s office asked for her case to be dismissed without prejudice. The court granted the request.
Police say this investigation is still in its early stages. Detectives are actively developing leads and gathering evidence. Additional arrests and charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
