Shots Fired Call Leads to Arrest of Benton Man on Gun, Drug Charges

BENTON – A Benton man is facing gun and drug charges following a report of shots fired in Franklin County Monday night.

Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon says a man called 911 just after 9 Monday night saying he thought someone was shooting at him after stopping his car to check on a possible mechanical issue. The man said he heard several gunshots close to him and believed his car had been struck.

Deputies arrived and made contact with the resident near the location of the reported incident. He was identified as 45-year-old Tommy J. Burton of Benton.

As a result of the investigation, Burton was arrested and charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Burton was booked into the Franklin County Jail.

Benton and West City Police assisted the sheriff’s office with this incident.
