Copeland has worked in law enforcement for over two decades and brings with him a strong commitment to community-centered policing and leadership development. He has been with the Paducah Police Department since 2006 and began his career with the Baltimore County Police Department in Maryland in 2002.

During his time with the Paducah Police Department, Copeland began as a patrol officer and later served as a detective. He also served in or supervised every division as he rose through the ranks, ultimately becoming Assistant Police Chief in 2018.

Copeland holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a master’s degree in Human Development and Leadership from Murray State University. His training also includes advanced law enforcement leadership programs from the FBI, Penn State University, the University of Louisville, and the Southern Police Institute.

Stan Reno, who served as Carbondale Police Chief for several years, moved into the City Manager role earlier this year. Carbondale Deputy Chief Anthony Williams has been serving as acting Police Chief.
