VIENNA – Vienna Superintendent Dr. Joshua Stafford has been selected for the Fulbright Leaders for Global Schools Program.

According to a press release posted on the Vienna High School Facebook page, the Fulbright Leaders for Global Schools Program is a United States Department of State initiative that sends school and district administrators to participating countries for an intensive professional development program. The program aims to enhance the global competence of U.S. schools by providing administrators with opportunities to learn about international educational systems, share best practices, and foster international collaboration, as well as learn from and research with colleagues in high-performing education systems.
The United States Department of State received 157 applications from across the country, and only 40 educational leaders were selected.
The United States Congress provides funding to the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for the Fulbright Program. The Department partners with the Fulbright Commission in the United Kingdom, the Fulbright Foundation in Finland, and the Ministry of Education in Singapore for their partnership in designing the program in their respective countries. Dr. Stafford’s work will be focused in Singapore.
Fulbrighters engage in cutting-edge research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for forging future partnerships between institutions. Upon returning to their home countries, institutions, labs, and classrooms, they share their stories and often become active supporters of international exchange, inviting foreign scholars to campus and encouraging colleagues and students to go abroad.
Notable Fulbright alumni include 62 Nobel Prize laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize recipients, 78 MacArthur Fellows, and 41 who have served as a head of state or government.
Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided participants from over 160 countries, chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential, with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to challenges facing our communities and our world. The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program.
The Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board is a presidentially appointed 12-member Board and is responsible for supervising the Fulbright Program worldwide and approving the selection of all Fulbright recipients.
