Carmi Man Faces Aggravated Battery Charges after Altercation with Police and EMS

CARMI – A Carmi man was lodged in the White County Jail on multiple charges including three for Aggravated Battery – two involving Carmi Police officers and another involving an EMS worker – after getting into a physical altercation with police Saturday night on Plum Street.

Police responded to the intersection of Plum and Webb streets around 7:15 p.m. regarding two men in the roadway who appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Forty-year-old Matthew Lenon was arrested and taken to Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro following the altercation with police. One officer received a head injury. One EMS worker received a wrist injury.

Lennon was given pre-trial release Monday morning.
