PERRY COUNTY – Knight Hawk Coal released a statement Tuesday regarding the coal mine collapse that injured two miners Monday night at its Prairie Eagle East Portal underground coal mine in Perry County.
Officials say two men were injured when a rock fell from the ceiling at the mine. They were able to get medical attention from emergency personnel underground and on the surface. One was flown to a St. Louis hospital and the other was taken to Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
Perry County Ambulance along with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Ambulance all responded to assist.
