Despite Speculation, SIH Harrisburg Medical Center Not Closing

HARRISBURG – SIH announced Friday that there are no current or future plans to close SIH Harrisburg Medical Center.

This news comes on the heels of recent speculation regarding the hospital’s status from a University of North Carolina study that identified the hospital as one of nine in Illinois at risk of closure.

SIH officials say while they understand the concern this may cause, they want to be clear that Harrisburg Medical Center remains a vital part of their health care system and their commitment to the people of Saline County and the surrounding region is unwavering.

They are disappointed in the recent passage of President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” and actively assessing how its provisions – particularly cuts to Medicaid – may impact SIH’s operations. As the region’s largest employer and a not-for-profit health system, SIH remains dedicated to providing care to all people in the communities it serves.

SIH looks forward to continued dialogue with our federal elected officials to help mitigate the potential burdens placed on rural healthcare providers like SIH.
