SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – There is an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.

Damaging winds, large hail, and perhaps a brief tornado are the primary hazards. Locally heavy rain could cause isolated flooding issues as well.
Forecasters remind you to have a plan and be prepared to take action if your location ends up in the path of severe storms today. Make sure you have a way to get weather alerts.
A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for most of the region from late this morning through early this evening.
Dangerous, prolonged heat and humidity arrives Saturday and will continue through at least Tuesday. Daily peak heat index values of 100 to 107 degrees are forecast with only limited relief at night. Take proper precautions if you have to be outdoors.
